For more than six years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, no truly global centre had emerged to bring together knowledge and leadership with the aim of countering radicalisation and political violence.
The International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR) was designed to close this gap.
ICSR is a unique partnership in which King's College London, the University of Pennsylvania, the Regional Centre for Conflict Prevention Amman (Jordan) and the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya (Israel) are equal stakeholders.
The Centre was launched with an international conference in London in January 2008.
The ICSR Mission
Our mission is to challenge the growth of radicalisation and political violence by bringing together the world's most innovative thinkers from academia, politics and business.
In doing so, ICSR draws upon the intellectual capital of four leading academic institutions, the creativity and 'can do' attitude of successful business leaders, as well as the influence of policymakers who know how to make things happen.
ICSR is independent and non-partisan. All our work is published and no classified work for any government of international agency will be undertaken.
The ICSR Approach
The ICSR approach is aimed at making a difference. Our objectives are to advance the debate, bring together knowledge and leadership and find intelligent solutions to contemporary problems.
All ICSR projects and initiatives are geared toward impact. ICSR research deals with issues identified as pressing by leading experts, professionals and policymakers. It engages relevant stakeholders and focuses on concrete solutions.
ICSR also facilitates systematic, outcome-driven dialogues involving senior policymakers and stakeholders from different national, religious and political backgrounds.
ICSR, in other words, is the key forum through which policymakers, experts and security professionals engage in dialogue, develop their thinking and find solutions for one of the greatest challenges of our time.
