Gil holds a BA in International Relations and Communications and an MA in Conflict Research, Management and Resolution from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (both with honors).
 
He works as a senior national security analyst at the Reut Institute for strategic thinking in Tel-Aviv.
 
Gil was also a Fellow at the Legacy Heritage Fellowship, an international leadership programme during 2009-2010. Over the course of his studies Gil has served in the Prime Minister's Office as well as working as a research assistant in the Truman Institute at the Hebrew University. In addition, Gil was a member of the "Art of Statecraft" Programme at the Shalem Institute.
 
During the summer of 2011, Gil was one of the leaders and founders of the "On the ground Think Tanks" in "Hamedina" square, Tel Aviv as part of the Israeli civil protest movement.
