Atkin Paper Series - Collaborating for Peace? Assessing the Work of Palestinian-Israeli Joint Organisations since the Oslo Accords

Thanks to the generosity of the Atkin Foundation, ICSR is offering young leaders from Israel and the Arab world the opportunity to come to London for a period of four months, producing a research paper as the result of their work. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide young leaders from Israel and the Arab world with an opportunity to develop their ideas on how to further peace and understanding in the Middle East through research, debate and constructive dialogue in a neutral political environment.

In his paper 'Collaborating for Peace? Assessing the Work of Palestinian-Israeli Joint Organisations since the Oslo Accords' Oday Abukaresh of Palestine evaluates the work of Palestinian-Israeli joint organisations and their contribution to the search for a peaceful settlement in the Middle East. He concludes that, though well-intentioned, most of these initiatives are badly coordinated and often ill-conceived. The paper describes failures but also sets out a positive strategy for how their potential contribution can be made more effective.
